About England
The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. England occupies both the largest land area on the island of Great Britain, and is its dominant political force. Birthplace of Shakespeare and The Beatles, England offers a grand mix of historical and cultural significance. Its national capital, London, is a multicultural center for business, politics, and popular historic attractions such as the Tower of London dating back to the 11th century. Scholars also revel in England’s highly regarded university centers of Oxford and Cambridge. A nation passionate about sports, fans do not have to look far to participate or spectate local and professional rugby and soccer teams, one of the most popular being Manchester United. Whether it is a buzzing city or scenic countryside, a roaring stadium or a quite museum that suites you, England offers something for everyone!

About Harlaxton College

Harlaxton College is owned and operated by the University of Evansville and has been ranked the best study abroad program in America by Best College Reviews. Harlaxton College is a 100 room manner situated on 297 acres of beautiful English country side, but is just an hour by train from London. The estate dates back nearly 200 years and its ideal location provides the best of both rural and city living as it is away from the hustle and bustle but offers easy access to London and surrounding cities such as Manchester. Students will have the opportunity to participate in college organized excursions not only to London, but to destinations such as Scotland, Ireland, France, and Italy as well. Local culture trips also offer insight into daily British life. Popular visits include Sherwood Forest, Leicester, Chatsworth House, and Bletchy Park. All students participating in a semester program, take a six-credit interdisciplinary core course in British Studies taught by the British faculty and two or three classes in chosen academic disciplines taught by visiting American faculty. These courses often require excursions or field studies to incorporate additional immersion. Students are also able to participate in classic student organizations including student government, theater, and sports groups. Another popular highlight of Harlaxton’s program is the House Competition. Students are split into four houses and participate in academic, athletic, creative, social, and other competitions throughout the term in an effort to win the most points and secure the coveted Manor Key. If your mind just went to Harry Potter, you’re on the right track! Harlaxton offers a “Hogwarts” like feel and courses satisfy many general education requirements, making it a unique and exciting experience suitable for all students.
