Education Abroad Ambassador Program 2022-2023

Title: Education Abroad Ambassador
Commitment: Academic Year 2022-2023; 3-8 hours/week and participation in at least 3 events per semester
Compensation: Internship credits upon approval by academic department
Supervisor: Education Abroad Advisor and Outreach/Marketing Coordinator
Goals of the Program: To provide students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of international education, and a chance to reflect upon and articulate the value of an international education experience through:
- Advising students interested in studying abroad through presentations and developing and conducting outreach events;
- Being listed as members of the staff and as Education Abroad Ambassadors on the U of I Education Abroad website;
- Representing Education Abroad at events on campus including but not limited to Education Abroad Fairs, Pre-Departure Orientations, Envision Idaho, UIdaho Bound, and activities with the international student community;
- Sharing with high school students in the area and U of I students how you selected your program and how you made the most of your time abroad;
- Presenting, both formally and informally, your experience to various audiences on the U of I campus and throughout the community; and
- Contributing to the development of the U of I Education Abroad Office’s online resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- U of I Education Abroad experience
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Interest in education abroad and international cultures
- Public speaking experience
- Social media management experience
- Punctuality
- Flexibility
- Ability to work daytime, evening, and possible weekend hours
- In good academic standing (maintain a 2.5 GPA minimum)
Desired Qualifications
- Event planning experience
- Advertising/marketing or journalism experience
- Availability and commitment to stay in position for full year preferred
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Video production experience
Commitment Expectations
- U of I Education Abroad Ambassadors must participate in at least 3 activities per semester to be considered an ambassador.
- We understand that you have busy schedule and a variety of commitments! Therefore, we are flexible with the number of hours you can dedicate during the week. For example, ambassadors work 3-8 hours/week. We will always take your schedule into consideration. Please let us know if you have specific commitments that need to be addressed.
- Students who seek academic credit for the study abroad ambassador position will have hour requirements based on the internship parameters set by the credit-granting department.
