Accademia Italiana is an Italian art and design institute with campuses in Florence and Rome, Italy. Founded in 1984, AI was the first Florentine school of art, fashion and design operating on an international level, accepting students from all over the world and from every region of Italy.
About Accademia Italiana
While students in art and design majors have many options to study abroad in Italy, Accademia Italiana is unique in that it offers them valuable practical and career-related experience as well as the possibility to truly immerse themselves in Italian culture. AI is the only private fine arts university in Florence and in Tuscany authorized to offer Bachelor's degree programs in Fashion, Design and Photography leading to degrees recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education. The AI Rome has the same kind of accreditation. AI’s graduates have gone on to work for top Italian and international design firms and many have received substantial recognition in their professional fields.
The Rome campus is set in the heart of the Eternal City. In Rome, Accademia Italiana offers programs in fashion design, jewelry design, interior &industrial design and photography. In Florence, AI is located directly across from the historic Pitti Palace. The campus offers programs in fashion design, interior & industrial design, graphic design & visual communications, photography & new media. At both centers, AI offers an extensive list of liberal arts and studio arts courses as well as beginner, intermediate and advanced level Italian language courses. US study abroad students may take courses in any of these departments and most students select a variety of offerings from the different departments.

Italy is known for its warm people, outstanding cuisine, varied land and seascapes, and unparalleled artistic and historic wonders. It's not surprising that Italy, the country with the most UNESCO world heritage sites in the world, seems to change within the distance of only a few kilometers! Italy's variety never ceases to surprise: from culture, to food, to language, to weather, to landscape, and to personality. With 45 world heritage sites - 47 if you include those found in the Republic of San Marino and the Vatican: two countries are located entirely within the Italian peninsula - Italy is certainly never boring!
Italian Educational System
Italian universities are some of the oldest in the world. Students in Italy begin to follow a career path early on in their education. A bachelor degree program at a university in Italy typically takes three years. This degree focuses mostly on the acquisition of general scientific methods and principles. The bachelor's degree called a Laurea is a first level degree and most students choose to study for five or six years in order to earn a second level degree. This degree is known as a laurea magistrale. Students are required to complete a total of 60 credits for an academic year. On credit equals to 25 hours of work. Most universities in Italy are supported by the State.
