About the Kingdom of Bhutan
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small Buddhist country nestled in the Eastern Himalayas and is known for its pristine beauty, its commitment to environmental preservation and its unique approach to development that measures its success in terms of Gross National Happiness. Having recently entered the global community after years of isolation and ratifying its first constitution, Bhutan is experiencing rapid social change while striving to preserve its extraordinary traditions. Although Dzongkha or Bhutanese is the official national language, many Bhutanese people speak English as it is the language of instruction in schools. English is also commonly used in road signs, governmental documents, and the national newspaper. Bhutan still preserves its traditions as the world’s only remaining Buddhist Himalayan Kingdom and has a strong national identity, having never been colonized in its history. The RTC program is designed to provide students the means with which to gain deep insight into a unique country undergoing dramatic transition.

About Royal Thimphu College
Royal Thimphu College is the first private college in Bhutan and offers students a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in a culture rich with history and vibrant traditions. The rural campus includes 25 acres of scenic mountainside and is just seven kilometers from the national capital. Students will live in RTC dorms with Bhutanese students, earn credit for academic courses, have opportunities to engage with the community, and travel to different parts of the country in their free time. RTC’s natural atmosphere along with Bhutan’s preservation efforts, make it a one of a kind location for environmental studies as it offers many opportunities to engage with leaders dedicated to the future of Bhutan and preserving its precious traditions and environment.
